Monday, June 9 / Laney Walker/Bethlehem Heritage Trail Public Meeting

The second of three community meetings on the Laney Walker/ Bethlehem Heritage Trail will be held June 9, 2014 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm in the banquet hall of Beulah Grove Baptist Church, located at 1434 Poplar Street, Augusta.

Join us as members of the project team, including University of South Carolina historian Dr. Bobby Donaldson, representatives from Cranston Engineering Group, Historic Augusta, and Davis Design Group, discuss information collected to date and gather additional input from the public into the history of the area. The project team will also hear ideas from the public on how the trail could best meet community needs and inform visitors about the area’s rich history and new beginnings.

Saturday, January 18 / Augusta’s 2014 Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade Comes to Laney Walker/Bethlehem

Join us for the 2014 Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade Saturday, January 18 beginning at 1:00 p.m.

The parade starts at Dyess Park Community Center, 902 James Brown Blvd. The parade will proceed south on James Brown Blvd; then west on Wrightsboro Rd., north onto Augusta Ave., east onto Laney Walker Blvd., north on 11th St., and east on D’Antignac St. and end at Dyess Park.

A Community Planning Assistance Team sponsored by the American Planning Association will present recommendations on the Laney Walker/Bethlehem revitalization effort Thursday, December 19 at 6:00 p.m. at the Tabernacle Baptist Church Family Life Center, 1230 Laney Walker Boulevard, Augusta. November 16 / Pine Street Remembers Longtime Resident Adele Randall

Adele Randall, who made Augusta’s Pine Street her home for over 50 years, will be honored Saturday, November 16 during the Jazz on Pine concert in the Heritage Pine pocket park.  Ms. Randall died on July 1 at the age of 71.  A plaque dedicated to her memory will be placed under a 50-year old magnolia tree signifying her deep roots in the Laney Walker/Bethlehem community.  Read more…
